This book had a unique start. Prior to the preparations for the exhibit which this book is the companion, 116 of the 177 sculptures in the The Winnipeg Art Gallery were not identified. Darlene Coward Wight, the museum’s curator of Inuit art, takes the reader on a journey of discovery as she sets out to identify the the pieces in the gallery’s collection, and find out more about the artists who created the early works.
The sculpture on the cover is Muskox horn with Engraved Drawings (1953) by Osuitok Ipeelee, 1923-2005. This work is in the collection of Canadian Guild of Crafts.
