INUIT
Artist
With a unique perspective and style, Thomassie Kudluk sculpted his interpretations of daily life and stories passed down through time with a strong recognizable artistic voice and wit. In numerous pieces the represented story is carved in Inuktitut on the sculpture, giving it a folksy sense. I think of him as a polished informal Inuit voice that relates in the most appealing manner. I especially love the combination of unfinished, yet refined look of Thomassie carvings. Their size and shape make them easily held and extremely tactile. I often pick them up just to feel their presence. When I had the chance to buy 18 Thomassie carvings at one time, I grabbed the opportunity and never regretted it!
